![]() We all have a purpose in life, but finding it and tapping into what it really is, is often a trying journey. As mothers that journey becomes even harder. We focus our energy on caring for our children and others, and the journey to finding our purpose for life is clouded by the day to day of being a mom. But when all hope is lost, in comes Shama Dominique of Mommies With Purpose! I had been following Shama for a little while and was beyond excited when she accepted the invitation to be a part of Mompreneur Mondays. And our first encounter did not disappoint. Driven by God to find her own purpose, Shama saw that women, mommies in particular needed that motivation and guidance to also find their purpose in life and truly live in it. Starting as an event designer with her husband, Shama didn’t originally see herself as the inspirational force that she is today. She was dedicated to making the designing business her thing until she started dabbling in creating a platform for moms. Her number one goal is ‘one mommy a day’. She doesn’t allow herself to get caught up in the numbers and trying to reach “the masses” but rather being strategic about reaching at least one mommy each day to be a positive impact on her life and effectively spread the knowledge and motivation that is Mommies With Purpose. Shama herself is a perfect example of what living a purpose driven life is like. Being a mom of 3 girls, a wife, and woman of God- Shama has a lot on her plate! There was a time in her motherhood where Shama was feeling lost, depressed and alone. The expression of these feelings opened the door for God to work through her. While going through her storm Shama saw that there were not many platforms. If any, that spoke about motherhood in the way that she needed to see and knew other moms do also. So much of the motherhood discussion is about our children. How to be a better mom, how to clean and organize toys, best educational apps for your kids etc. But where was the conversation about being a woman after motherhood? Having goals as a woman and a mother? Following goals as a mom? They are few and far between. This gap in our community was something that needed to be filled and Mommies with Purpose has been helping fill that gap. Letting moms know that they are women still and that it’s ok to not be perfect and more importantly, it’s important to follow your dreams and tap into your purpose...ESPECIALLY AS A MOM! Being a mompreneur has been a journey for Shama but she has found a great hack to include her children, therefore getting quality time and content. When her children really want her attention she takes a moment to bond with them and occasionally have an impromptu photo shoot. She also learned that consistently working on her business has given her daughters a sense of normality around it and they know that when she is working to give mommy some space. There are some great things coming soon for Mommies With Purpose. Including a thrift section that helps moms to boost their confidence from the inside out. Be sure to check out the Youtube interview we had for more on what’s to come. If you’re looking to start your own business and tap into your purpose this is Shama’s advice; “Fix your perspective. Challenge your thinking and see what is holding you back. Follow that tug on your heart and understand that this is the beginning to the foundation you will lay for your legacy. Your business/purpose is also a source of self care!” I had such a good time chatting with Shama and diving deeper into her purpose, how it came to be and what she is doing to help other mothers as well. Wow, I love what she did. The “one mommy a day” statement really resonated with me. Can you imagine how much better this world would be if we all just connected & encouraged one person a day? Absolutely love this.
